Even though Sony is the most well-known force behind the Blu-ray format, Samsung was actually the first company to roll out a Blu-ray player–the BD-P1000, which arrived in the summer of 2006. Now Samsung has another first: its BD-P1200 is the first second-generation Blu-ray player on the market. First-gen standalone Blu-ray players had all sorts of quirks–some couldn’t play CDs, many had lackluster support for high-resolution soundtracks, and they all lacked HDMI 1.3. Worst of all, their selling prices hovered somewhere north of $1,000. Many early adopters and enthusiasts, who still represent the only real market for dedicated high-def disc players, couldn’t help but notice that Toshiba’s HD DVD players were cheaper and that Sony’s PlayStation 3 offered Blu-ray playback and high-def gaming for $600…

Samsung’s LN-T3253H is the successor to the LN-S3251D, our favorite 32-inch LCD television from last year, and in most ways it’s an improvement. Our favorite addition is the significantly expanded array of options for tweaking the picture, including everything from gamma to color temperature to independent input memories. And if all that sounds like gobbledygook, don’t worry; the television’s Movie preset is pretty solid in its own right. Aside from its picture, the LN-T3253H also offers exemplary connectivity and plenty of style, once again providing a good reason to spend an extra few hundred dollars over bargain-basement LCDs…

If anyone is going to be instrumental in bringing high-definition entertainment to the masses it won’t be Sony. After all, PlayStation 3s don’t put HDTVs in houses; HDTVs do. No other company offers as wide a range of high quality flatscreens at such a reasonable price as Samsung’s line, and with that, 1UP took a long hard look at a moderately sized, relatively inexpensive 26″ monitor that — depending on the size of your immediate viewing area — provides maximum bang for the buck…

SAN DIEGO, June 11, 2007 Sony today introduced a new line of thin lightweight notebooks featuring eye-popping colors and a chic design.
Sporting a luxurious, glossy finish and framed with a silver, luminous trim, the VAIO® CR notebooks reflect style and taste. They are available in five fashion-forward colors –sangria, cosmopolitan, dove, indigo and black (matte finish).
Personalized extras are abundant throughout. A uniquely configured keyboard is comfortable to use, while a specialized keyboard font adds a fun touch. An LED pulsates beneath the notebook’s trim reflecting what the PC is doing — booting up, powering down, hibernating — and glowing and fading accordingly.
Completing the look, each CR notebook comes with its own funky VAIO branded wallpaper and optional color-coordinated carrying bag and mouse.
“Just like the car you drive, notebooks today are an extension of your personality” said Mike Abary, senior vice president of VAIO product marketing for Sony Electronics in the United States. “As such, users expect their PC to reflect their creativity and individuality, as well as handle their spreadsheets.”

We enjoy using Apple’s iPod nano, but the best thing about the slim player may be the competitive spirit it brings out in other companies. Samsung has responded to the nano’s success with the YP-T9, a tiny, gorgeous player (in 2GB and 4GB capacities) packed with features and personality. If you’re not a die-hard iTunes fan, there may not be a better player for the price…
